What Are We Doing for Food Security?

The World Food Summit of 1996 defined food security as when “all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life”.

In order to have food security, the food system must be complete. It is not just about agricultural productivity. It is from production to distribution, to access, to consumption and to disposal. When every part of the food system works well, it supports people and businesses to make enough money to keep working in the food system. And it also ensures everyone gets enough healthy food. And, furthermore, contributes to food literacy.
UBER and GRAB can innovate systems that can cut down the number of cars on the road, which means less carbon polluting the air, yet keeping the drivers paid. By extension, we believe the emerging startup culture in Singapore can be a great opportunity for young and dynamic entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs to step up to the challenges presented by food security concerns. Becoming a food entrepreneur can make a huge impact on the food system!
